Behind FilmBreak

FilmBreak is a new advertising and full service production division of two companies 
FilmBrigade and Bionaut Films, which have in the past produced the successful television series The Airport (TV Prima) and several feature-length films including Brats, which was nominated in 2002 for seven Czech Lions, Shark in the Head with Oldřich Kaiser in the leading role, and Bitter Coffee by Islandic director Börkur Gunnarsson.

FilmBreak strives to take full advantage of the production experience of both of its parent companies, FilmBrigade and
Bionaut Films, and to provide its clients with the best service and know-how the Czech film industry has to offer. Under the FilmBreak label, you will find the rare combination of film and television experience gained while producing artistically strong feature-length films and very popular television projects.

FilmBreak not only produces television commercials and video clips for clients, but also aims to provide full services to foreign crews. So if you are considering shooting in the Czech or Slovak republics, we will gladly attend to all your needs, whether your budget is 1.5 or 10 million euros. For interesting film projects, we can also join in as co-producers.

Bionaut Films

BionautFilms is an art house oriented company producing feature-length, documentary, and animated films since 1999. A Member of the Czech APA (Audiovisual Producers’ Association) since 2002, producer Vratislav Šlajer was awarded Producer on the Move in 2004 and is ACE producer 2004.

Films produced include Brats (Smradi, dir. Zdeněk Tyc, Karlovy Vary IFF 2002 competition, IFF Istanbul – best director, Czech Film Awards – seven nominations including best film, award for best actor – Ivan Trojan), Dust Games (Hry prachu, dir. Martin Mareček, IFF Jihlava 2001 – best Czech documentary film, Audience Award), Sentiment (dir. Tomáš Hejtmánek, co-producer, IFF Jihlava 2003 – best Central European film), and Bitter Coffee, Czech Icelandic comedy (Silný kafe, dir. Börkur Gunnarsson, released in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Iceland). Shark in the Head, (Žralok v hlavě, dir. Maria Procházková www.zralok-film.cz) was released in January 2005. Three projects are currently in production: the children’s film Little Theresa (release in August 08), Ties that Bind (thriller, shooting Fall 08), and Wolta (drama, shooting mid 08).

Bionaut Films

FilmBrigade is a Prague-based production company that concentrates on high-quality mainstream film and television projects. FilmBrigade was founded in 2005 with the aim of building a strong brand on the domestic audiovisual market that would align itself with artistically compelling projects with broad audience appeal. FilmBrigade has just completed shooting a television comedy-drama series The Airport, which successfully ended its run in December 2007 with its 118th episode. Feature film scripts supported by the European Union’s Media Programme and other television projects are currently in the works.

With an annual turnover of some one hundred million crowns, FilmBrigade ranks among the largest production companies in the Czech Republic in terms of production volume.
